Chief of staff (or head of staff) is a leadership title with different meanings in civilian and military organizations. In civilian government organizations and businesses, a chief of staff is a primary aide-de-camp to an important individual, such as a president/CEO or leader of a large organization... In civilian organizations, a chief of staff provides a buffer between a chief executive and that executive's direct-reporting team. The chief of staff generally works behind the scenes to solve problems, mediate disputes, and deal with issues before they are brought to the chief executive.[1] Often a chief of staff acts as a confidant and advisor to the chief executive, acting as a sounding board for ideas. Ultimately the actual duties depend on the position and the people involved. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chief_of_staff

George Nurijanian has a "Find the Strategic Crux" skill based on Rumelt's book. Most strategy work in product orgs stalls in the same place. Everyone agrees something needs to change. Nobody can name the core reason the gap exists. So the team writes pillars, bins roadmap items underneath them, and calls it strategy. The Find the Strategic Crux skill exists for that moment. It is a guided five-step problem-solving sequence inside PM OS. You start with a messy or unclear strategy situation. You end with a named crux and a tested recommendation. Your company knowledge stays with you. The skill supplies the step-by-step structure and the questions that keep you from skipping the hard parts..... Find the Strategic Crux is one skill inside AI PM OS, an AI operating system for product managers. It sits alongside company context, two hundred other skills, and eight guided workflows. Run a crux analysis on a strategy problem here. Then feed the output into opportunity mapping, decision work, or stakeholder prep without retyping the diagnosis. (more)
