Facebook Connect
FaceBook API launched Dec'2008.
Benefits to a 3rd party site
-
users can post to Discussion Forum or other interactivity without having to create a profile (competing with OpenID). This should lead to greater participation.
- hmm, do you get access to any of the demographic data in their FaceBook profile? If not, does that profile give you anything to leverage for other benefit?
-
you can use Friend network data on your site - so could build an aggregate view of activity made just by their (FaceBook) friends. (Social Network Context)
-
actions on your can be published to user's FaceBook Mini Feed, promoting your site to their friends.
Anti-benefits?
- users are identified by their Real Name-s? Is that what they want in your forums/etc?
