Junto Meeting

Handlin, Oscar, The Americans (Boston: Little, Brown, 1963), 114: "Select clubs (in the mid-18th century colonies) could only meet in the tavern, where every outsider curiously looked on." HOWEVER, Ben Franklin reports that his club after a while stopped meeting in "the Alehouse" and moved to "a little Room of Mr Grace's set apart for that Purpose" (Autobiography, Lemay 1371).
