Cooper Union

tuition-free (until 2014) Architecture/Engineering School university (College Education) in my East Village/NYC neighborhood

owns the property beneath the Chrysler Building, and pays no Property Tax on it!

planned new development for its campus fought by the "Coalition to Save the East Village"

When Cooper's Foundation Building was constructed in 1858 it was the tallest building in New York City. Although elevators had not yet been invented, Peter Cooper predicted their arrival, and included round elevator shafts in the building.
